PARENTS versus MILLENNIALS
Whenever we, millennials, feel sick or in pain, the most common thing our parents say is "Yan! Kaka-computer mo!" or whenever we face a certain situation, parents or adults tend to say "Alam mo ba nung panahon namen... ganto... ganyan...". These are just a few examples of the generation gap that we have between us and our parents. Let's just think of it -- Why are they saying these things? Is it generation shaming? Or are we really parting ways to what they think is good for us?
Generation shaming is what I can call a "trend" for most adults nowadays. It is an issue where older generations view millenials as unmotivated, narcissistic and other entitlements. Yes! These words can be painful, but let's open our minds. Maybe all or some of them are true. Let's reflect. Are they really shaming us, or we are doing something shameful that they are just describing us?
Let's look around and see if what they are telling is true. Well, in my own perception, most of them are. Most millennials, especially teenagers are less productive because of Social Media and other gadgets. Research says that a huge number of teenagers are spending 4 or more hours a day on Social Media and/or games, and are becoming less productive in school works and other chores.
I'm encouraging my fellow millennials to read between the lines. Older generations already lived a much longer life than us. They already have tons of experiences in life. And I believe that they only want what's best for us. Their words can be hurtful and harsh but let's just be understanding. Instead of taking these as "shaming", let us just receive them as a challenge to improve our generation.
If we do not want to be put to shame, then let's strive on doing better than them. Let's prove them wrong! Be the "Pag-asa ng bayan", Dr. Jose Rizal is pertaining us to. FIGHTING, MILLENNIALS!
